Departments of transportation and highway agencies are fully aware that wet or freezing conditions make pavements more hazardous. These hazardous conditions increase the probability of traffic delays and accidents at intersections. SCAN Detector is a unique traffic device used in conjunction with an SSI® FP 2000® pavement sensor. SCAN Detector plugs into a TS-2 traffic controller cabinet. The pavement sensor continuously monitors road conditions near an intersection and reports the status to a traffic controller. Using the SCAN Detector pavement system enables dynamic changes to the timing of traffic flow in order to improve safety and traffic throughput when road conditions deteriorate.
Additionally, when used with your RWIS (Road Weather Information System) network, SCAN Detector can provide pavement information at more locations in your area.
